Aam Aadmi Party MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura from Khadoor Sahib has been sentenced by a Tarn Taran court. He has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the four-year sentence. In his appeal, he sought a stay. The High Court refused to grant relief to Lalpura and adjourned the hearing till October 28.
Membership of Vidhan Sabha in danger
Lalpura’s lawyer argued that if the sentence is not stayed, his membership in the Vidhan Sabha may be in jeopardy. It is worth mentioning that on March 3, 2013, a woman from Usman village went to a wedding with her family where some taxi drivers molested her.
Manjinder Singh Lalpura accused of molestation
When she protested, she and her family were attacked and the police also reached the spot. They were mistreated.
Manjinder Singh, the accused in this case, was elected MLA from Khadoor Sahib in Lalpura in 2022. At that time, this issue of Usman village in Patti Vidhan Sabha constituency resonated from the streets to Parliament.
The Supreme Court took cognizance of the matter and ordered protection for the victim’s family.
