Modi Says NDA Rising in Kerala, Targets LDF Ahead of Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that the political landscape in Kerala is changing, claiming that the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) will be voted out and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will come to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a public rally in the poll-bound state, Modi said that he had visited Kerala earlier as well, but this time “the direction of the wind is different,” indicating what he described as a growing wave of support for the NDA. His remarks come as campaigning intensifies ahead of the crucial elections scheduled for April 9.

Sharp Attack on LDF and UDF

During his address, Modi launched a strong attack on both the LDF and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing them of decades of misgovernance and corruption. He alleged that both alliances have alternated in power while failing to deliver meaningful development for the people of Kerala.

The Prime Minister claimed that the people of the state are now looking for a new alternative, positioning the BJP-led NDA as the only viable option for change. He reiterated that Kerala is witnessing a “different vibe” and signs of political transformation.

Modi also suggested that voters are increasingly disillusioned with traditional political fronts, which he accused of indulging in vote-bank politics and neglecting long-term growth.

NDA’s Push for ‘New Kerala’ Vision

Highlighting the NDA’s agenda, Modi emphasized the alliance’s vision of building a “developed Kerala”, focusing on infrastructure, economic growth, and employment opportunities. He urged voters to give the NDA a chance to govern the state, promising transparency and development-driven policies.

He further stated that BJP workers and leaders are working extensively at the grassroots level to connect with voters and communicate the party’s vision. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that this outreach would translate into electoral success.

Home Voting Facility Highlighted

A key highlight of the election preparations in Kerala is the provision of a home voting facility for eligible voters. Authorities have introduced this option to ensure that senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and those unable to visit polling booths can still exercise their democratic rights.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Election Commission to make the voting process more inclusive and accessible, especially in a state with a significant elderly population.

High-Stakes Electoral Battle

The 2026 Kerala Assembly elections are expected to witness a triangular contest between the LDF, UDF, and NDA. The state has traditionally alternated between the LDF and UDF, with the NDA seeking to make significant inroads this time.

Kerala has 140 Legislative Assembly seats, and a party or alliance needs 71 seats to form the government. The outcome will be closely watched as it could signal a shift in the state’s long-standing political dynamics.
