Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated a major semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant step in India’s push to become a global hub for chip manufacturing.

The facility, set up by Kaynes Semicon, is part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen its domestic semiconductor ecosystem and reduce reliance on imports.

₹3,300 crore investment to boost chip production

The Sanand-based plant has been developed with an investment of approximately ₹3,300 crore and is expected to play a key role in India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. The unit will focus on packaging and testing semiconductor chips, which is a critical stage before chips are supplied to industries.

According to official estimates, the facility will have the capacity to produce around 60 lakh chips per day, significantly boosting India’s production capabilities in the sector.
