Modi’s Successful Visit to Israel

Over these years, India and Israel have been partners in economic and strategic spheres. Israel enjoys the blessings of the United States, and despite the ongoing conflict, Israel is progressing on the path of development. The Indian government wants to promote bilateral cooperation with Israel in agriculture, science, and defense, as well as on counterterrorism and other issues. To this end, while the Prime Ministers of both countries initiated personal conversations, 16 MoUs and agreements were signed and exchanged between the two countries.

Agreements on science, technology, innovation, cybersecurity, agriculture, water management, defense, trade, and economic cooperation between the two countries are enough to worry hostile countries that are jealous of both India and Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara came to see Prime Minister Modi off at the airport upon his return. Netanyahu, along with his wife, also welcomed Modi with a warm embrace upon his arrival in Tel Aviv.

Modi delivered a speech in the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, and the Parliament conferred upon him the highest honor, “Speaker of the Knesset Model.” During his address, PM Modi expressed his pride in standing before the Israeli Parliament. He stated clearly on the issue of terrorism: “We cannot forget the 26/11 Mumbai attacks nor the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Both countries will fight terrorism together.” Modi condemned the Hamas attack and stated that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances. Both India and Israel have suffered terrorism, and therefore, our policy towards terrorism is firm and clear.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also stated that India has close personal ties and dialogue. He described Modi as a respected leader in the world and the “Lion of Asia.”

Since Netanyahu is very close to the United States, from a political perspective, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel could be a source of satisfaction for the United States as well. Modi’s strategy of balancing relations with both Russia and the United States appears to be successful. PM Modi’s visit also saw progress on several other issues, including the process of India’s free trade agreement with Israel. Both PM Modi and Netanyahu have assured that a free trade agreement between the two countries will be signed soon.
India’s UPI system will now be operational in Israel. We believe that the agreements reached between the two countries on trade and technology, defense, space and energy cooperation, joint development, production, and technology transfer will undoubtedly benefit both countries. Cooperation between the two countries in the defense sector will prove helpful in protecting India’s borders. During his visit, Modi also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and invited him to visit India.

The Israeli President described India’s rapid economic progress as a global draw. PM Modi’s paying tribute at Yad Vashem, the memorial center built to commemorate the millions of Jews killed in Hitler’s atrocities, was also a historic moment. Overall, Prime Minister Modi’s two-day visit to Israel can be called a success.
