Chaos at Government De-Addiction Centre in Moga: 30 Patients Escape After Scuffle

Moga: A major security lapse has been reported at a government-run drug de-addiction center in Moga, where 30 patients escaped after breaking open the main gate following a violent altercation with staff and security personnel.

According to initial reports, the center had 95 patients undergoing treatment when an argument between staff and patients escalated on Wednesday evening. The dispute quickly turned violent, with patients allegedly assaulting staff members and engaging in a physical scuffle.

Security personnel intervened but were reportedly outnumbered. The situation worsened as both sides clashed, with bricks being thrown during the confrontation. In the chaos, patients broke the lock of the main gate and attempted to flee.

CCTV footage from the incident shows large groups of patients running out of the facility in disorderly fashion. While some were restrained, around 30 managed to escape.

Police Action and Investigation

Following the incident, police from Kot Ise Khan Police Station reached the spot and took possession of the CCTV footage. Statements from staff members have been recorded, and raids are being conducted at possible hideouts across nearby areas to trace the absconding individuals.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine how the situation escalated and whether there were lapses in security arrangements at the rehabilitation center.
