Mohali: Fatal attack on High Court lawyer Gagandeep Jammu, strict action demanded

A lawyer and former secretary of the Punjab-Haryana High Court has been fatally attacked on the Kharar-Kurali road in Mohali. The incident is said to have taken place late on Monday night. An unidentified motorcyclist opened fire on Advocate Gagandeep Jammu while he was going in his vehicle.

Gagandeep Jammu narrowly escaped the incident, although his vehicle was damaged by the bullets. The incident has been strongly condemned by the legal fraternity, with members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association demanding immediate arrest of the responsible persons and increased security for lawyers.

In a statement, the High Court Bar Association condemned the attack and said that the firing was done with the intention of killing Jammu. Bar Association Secretary Advocate Parampreet Singh Bajwa (Harry) said, “Thankfully, he is uninjured and is safe.”

The Bar Association has demanded strict action by immediately arresting the accused and all others involved. It has also demanded adequate security for the members of the Bar so that they can perform their professional duties without any fear or intimidation.

Gagandeep Jammu filed a police complaint after the incident and said that the attacker was riding a motorcycle. Following the complaint, the Mohali Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
