A shocking crime incident has come to light in Mohali, Punjab, where a young man was allegedly thrown from a flyover after resisting a robbery attempt. The accused reportedly wore a Nihang-style costume and used a sword to threaten the victims before carrying out the crime.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when a young man was travelling with his girlfriend in the Mohali area. The couple was stopped by the accused on the road, who pretended to be a Nihang and confronted them aggressively.

Attacker threatens couple with sword

Police said the accused blocked the couple’s path and began threatening them with a sword. The man demanded valuables from the pair and created panic by behaving aggressively.

The attacker then allegedly snatched jewellery and a mobile phone from the girl while intimidating the couple. The sudden confrontation left the victims shocked and frightened, as the accused continued to threaten them with the weapon.

Incidents involving criminals disguising themselves in traditional attire have been reported earlier in Punjab as well, where suspects used such disguises to intimidate victims and avoid suspicion.

Youth pushed from flyover during scuffle

When the young man tried to resist the robbery and protect his girlfriend, a scuffle reportedly broke out between him and the attacker. During the altercation, the accused allegedly pushed the youth from the flyover, causing him to fall onto the road below.

The victim sustained injuries in the fall and was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was reported to be stable, though he suffered multiple injuries due to the fall.

Meanwhile, the attacker managed to flee the spot after committing the robbery.

Police launch search for accused

After receiving information about the incident, Mohali police reached the scene and began an investigation. Officials recorded statements from the victims and collected evidence from the area.

Police teams have started scanning CCTV footage from nearby roads and intersections to identify and track the suspect. Authorities believe that the accused may have targeted the couple deliberately or acted opportunistically after spotting them alone on the road.

A case has been registered under relevant sections related to robbery, assault and attempt to cause grievous harm.

Concern over rising street crimes

The incident has once again raised concerns about street crime and safety in the Mohali-Chandigarh region. Residents say criminals are increasingly targeting people travelling late at night or in isolated areas.

Security experts note that attackers sometimes use disguises or religious attire to avoid suspicion and scare victims into compliance.

Police assure strict action

Senior police officials have assured that the accused will be identified and arrested soon. They said multiple teams are working on the case and checking possible suspects in the region.

Authorities have also urged residents to remain cautious, avoid isolated routes at night and immediately inform the police if they encounter suspicious individuals.
