Taxi Driver Arrested as Key Financial Link in Narco-Terror Ring

Mohali’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has arrested 22-year-old Satnam Singh, a taxi driver from Punnewal village in Sangrur district, for allegedly acting as a financial conduit in an inter-state and cross-border narco-terror network, officials said on January 25, 2026.

Investigators believe Satnam played a central role in routing drug proceeds and terror funds at the behest of a Pakistan-based drug smuggler identified as Ali, linking him directly to a larger criminal module spanning multiple states.

    Link to Earlier NDPS Case

The arrest stems from a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case registered by SSOC Mohali on December 10, 2025. In that operation, authorities detained Rajbir Singh, a key operative, near the Indo-Nepal border in Raxaul, Motihari (Bihar), as he attempted to flee to Nepal. Police recovered 500 grams of heroin and a hand grenade in that raid.

Further inquiry showed that Rajbir had supplied heroin to another courier named Chirag, from whom 107 grams of the drug, a 9 mm pistol and live ammunition were seized earlier. Rajbir was also linked to a grenade attack on a women’s police station in Sirsa, Haryana, along with narcotics trafficking, terror financing and espionage.

    Financial Facilitation Revealed

As part of custodial interrogation of Rajbir Singh, police identified Satnam Singh as a crucial financial facilitator of the narco-terror module. Officials revealed that Satnam had travelled to Azerbaijan on a tourist visa in June 2025, where he met Ali. After returning to India, he reconnected with Ali in September and became increasingly involved in handling funds linked to international heroin smuggling.

Satnam is accused of misusing his bank account and UPI credentials to channel drug proceeds generated by Ali and Rajbir’s network. Investigators say drug money was deposited into his account after heroin sales, then routed to other members of the syndicate.

    Financial Trail Deepens Investigation

Police also identified a financial trail involving a third individual, Gurjant Singh from Patti in Tarn Taran district, who allegedly helped transfer funds from Rajbir into Satnam’s account. These revelations have significantly expanded the probe, exposing wider financial networks that facilitated the narco-terror operation.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to trace other financial conduits and accomplices linked to this cross-border drug and terror financing network.
