    Mohali Police Busts Fake Currency Gang, Recovers Rs 9.99 Crore; Two Arrested

    Mohali: Police in Mohali have seized counterfeit and demonetised currency worth Rs 9.99 million (approximately $1.9 million) from an interstate gang. In this case, police have arrested Sachin and Gurdeep Singh, residents of Kurukshetra, Haryana. This gang has defrauded many people. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said that the matter is under investigation.

    SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said police received a tip-off about the two accused’s suspicious activities. Following this, a team was formed under the supervision of SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh and DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar.

    Fake currency worth Rs 9.88 crore seized

    The team set up a check post near the Ghaggar Bridge on the old Ambala-Kalka Highway and stopped a Scorpio-N (HR-41-M-6974). During the search of the vehicle, genuine currency worth β‚Ή11.05 lakh and counterfeit currency worth approximately β‚Ή9.88 crore were seized.

    Old 1000 rupee notes were also seized.

    The counterfeit currency recovered included 80 bundles of 1,000 rupees (worth Rs 8 million), 60 bundles of 500 rupees (worth Rs 3 million), and 439 bundles of 2,000 rupees (worth approximately Rs 8.78 crore). During interrogation, the accused revealed that they placed genuine notes at the top and bottom of the bundles, while filling the middle with counterfeit notes. This gang is reportedly involved in numerous fraud cases in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

    A case of fraud of Rs 7 crore has already been registered against both accused at the Phase-1 police station in Mohali. A new case has been registered against them at the Derabassi police station under sections 318(4), 178, 179, 180, and 182 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police are investigating this network thoroughly and more arrests are expected in the near future.

    SSP SAS Nagar Harmandeep Singh Hans said, “This gang has defrauded people of crores of rupees. Timely action averted a major crime. The investigation is ongoing.”
