Mohali: A video allegedly showing a traffic police official taking bribe has gone viral on social media. The clip is reportedly from Zirakpur area and is claimed to show money being taken to avoid a traffic challan.

In the video, a young man is seen speaking to an ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) outside a traffic booth. During the conversation, the youth initially mentions giving ₹500, but the ASI is heard demanding a higher amount.

The young man then brings money from another person standing outside and hands it over to the ASI. He is also heard requesting that no challan be issued and that the photos taken be deleted. The ASI assures him that no challan will be issued.

Conversation Between Youth and ASI Captured on Video

In the viral footage, the exchange between the youth and the ASI is partially captured as follows:

The youth repeatedly insists that he only has ₹500, while the ASI refuses to accept that amount and asks for more. After some discussion, the ASI goes inside the booth. Later, the youth calls him again and eventually brings ₹500 from another person and hands it over.

He is also heard asking, “Now the challan won’t be issued, right?” and requesting deletion of photos. The ASI responds that it will be done.

ASI Denies Bribery Allegations

The accused officer, ASI Sohan Singh, has denied all allegations. He claimed that the video has been misrepresented and no money was taken.

He stated that the youth tried to offer money, but he did not accept it. According to him, the youth was allowed to leave without a challan after the interaction.

Traffic Police Say Action Will Depend on Inquiry

Mohali SP Traffic Navneet Singh Mahal said that the video has not yet officially reached his office. He added that if the clip is found to show wrongdoing, the matter will be brought to the SSP Mohali and action will be taken as per rules.

Authorities have indicated that a detailed investigation may be initiated once the video is verified.
