Moradabad: Man murders wife after fight over her gym routine

On Wednesday, in the Katghar police station area of ​​Moradabad near Double Phatak a scrap dealer named Shobhit Gupta murdered his wife, Poonam Gupta (35), by striking her on the head with a handle used to open a shop shutter. He committed this crime at 10:00 AM. He also attempted to portray the murder as an accident.

He informed the police and an ambulance service that his wife had fallen and sustained injuries, noting that she was bleeding profusely. However, upon observing the scene, the police grew suspicious; under rigorous interrogation, he confessed to the murder. He claimed that he had repeatedly told his wife not to go to the gym, but she refused to heed his instructions.

According to the police, Shobhit Gupta, a resident of Tower Wali Gali near Double Phatak in the Katghar area, had married Poonam Gupta, a resident of Beldaran in the Rampur district, ten years ago. The couple also has a daughter named Aradhya.

Shobhit objected on wife’s gym 

Shobhit owns a scrap shop located at Double Phatak. It is reported that Poonam Gupta used to go to a gym to exercise, a practice to which Shobhit objected. This issue frequently led to disputes between Shobhit and Poonam. On Wednesday as well, Poonam had gone to the gym.

When Poonam returned home from the gym around 10:00 AM, another argument ensued with her husband. At that time, their daughter had already left for school. Amidst the altercation, an enraged Shobhit grabbed the shop shutter handle kept inside the house and struck his wife on the head with it, killing her.

Portrayed the wife’s murder as an accident 

Subsequently, he placed his wife’s body on the bed. The accused called an ambulance and the police (via the 112 emergency number), reporting that his wife had fallen and sustained injuries. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the woman’s body lying on the bed.

The accused was then taken into custody. During rigorous interrogation, he confessed to the murder before the police. SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh stated that the accused is currently being interrogated and that a formal case will be registered based on a written complaint filed by the victim’s family (her parents’ side).

Police begins investigation 

Shobhit hatched a conspiracy to portray his wife Poonam’s murder as an accident and to save himself. When their daughter returned from school in the afternoon and inquired about her mother, Shobhit told her that she had gone out and would be back by evening.
