Morena Man Allegedly Kills Wife, Two Sons With an Axe Before Dying by Suicide; Police Probe Motive

Morena: A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and two young sons before dying by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, police said on Saturday. Investigators suspect prolonged domestic disputes or financial stress may have played a role, though the exact motive is yet to be established.

Incident Reported From Morena’s Kishanpur Village

The incident took place late on Friday night in Kishanpur village under the Basaiya police station limits. The accused has been identified as Balram Singh Kushwaha (35), while the victims were his wife Ravita Kushwaha (32) and their two sons, Aarav (8) and Debu (5).

According to police, Balram allegedly attacked his wife while she was asleep in the courtyard of their house before turning the axe on the two children. All three died at the scene due to multiple head injuries.

Bodies Discovered the Following Morning

The incident reportedly went unnoticed overnight as the house was surrounded by a high boundary wall.

On Saturday morning, neighbours became suspicious after finding the main gate locked from the outside. They looked inside the premises and found the bodies before immediately informing the police.

Police teams reached the spot, secured the crime scene and began collecting evidence.

Accused Dies by Suicide After Incident

According to investigators, after the alleged killings, Balram left the house and reached the nearby Shikarpur railway crossing, where he allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.

Railway authorities recovered his body from the tracks and informed the local police, who linked the incident to the triple murder.

Police Investigating Domestic Dispute and Other Angles

Police said preliminary findings indicate that the couple had been experiencing marital discord for nearly a month. However, officials stressed that the investigation is still in its early stages and no definitive conclusion has been reached regarding the motive.

During the investigation, police learnt that Balram worked as a marble polisher in Bengaluru and had returned to his native village around a month ago.

Investigators are also verifying reports that he was upset after receiving a WhatsApp video allegedly showing his wife dancing during a Bhagwat Katha programme. Police have clarified that this is only one of several angles being examined and has not been confirmed as the reason behind the incident.

Officials also said the couple had reportedly been living separately for some time following frequent arguments, and Ravita had returned from her parental home just three days before the incident.

Forensic Team Collects Evidence

Basaiya Police Station In-charge Vivek Tomar said police secured the crime scene immediately after receiving information and initiated a detailed investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Bhadoria said a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the house and collected evidence.

“We are reconstructing the entire sequence of events. Statements of family members, neighbours and other witnesses are being recorded. The exact motive behind the crime is yet to be established,” Bhadoria said.

He added that investigators are examining all possible angles, including domestic discord, financial issues and other personal circumstances. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem reports, forensic examination and completion of the investigation.
