Morning, evening cold increases in Punjab; western disturbance and La-Nina to cause shivers in December

The active western disturbance and the impact of La Niña will chill people in Punjab this December. Following the recent western disturbance, temperatures have been steadily dropping since the beginning of November, increasing the cold at night and in the morning. This is why minimum temperatures have remained up to 2 degrees below normal.

Dr. Surinderpal Singh, Director of the Meteorological Center, Chandigarh, believes that maximum temperatures this week, until November 13th, are likely to remain near normal. Maximum temperatures in the northern and eastern districts are expected to range between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while temperatures in other parts of the state will range between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar districts are expected to reach 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, while in other parts of the state, minimum temperatures are expected to range between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. Consequently, minimum temperatures in the northern and western districts are likely to remain below normal, while temperatures in other parts are expected to remain close to normal.

In addition, the La Niña effect is also a factor contributing to the colder weather this year. This is believed to be a major reason behind the drop in temperatures in Punjab this year. The La Niña effect is visible in North India in December.

According to weather experts, La Niña causes colder than normal winters in North India between October and December. This leads to snowfall in the hilly areas and increased intensity of cold in the plains.

This year too, due to La Niña conditions, North India is expected to experience more cold and cold waves in December. This is the beginning of winter, when western disturbances are also active, further increasing the impact of the cold. Therefore, the cold is felt more intensely in December across North India, including Punjab.
