Morning-evening cold increased in Punjab-Chandigarh; record cases of stubble burning lodged

Cold weather has intensified in Punjab and Chandigarh. Mornings and evenings are becoming colder, as are nights. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain largely clear for the coming week. No rain is forecast.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal for the next three days, remaining 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal.

The state’s average maximum temperature has dropped by 0.5 degrees in 24 hours, reaching close to normal. Samrala recorded the highest temperature of 29.9 degrees.

Mandi Gobindgarh’s air is the most polluted.
Regarding Punjab’s air quality, Mandi Gobindgarh’s air has been the most polluted, while Chandigarh’s air is clean. At 6 am, Amritsar’s AQI was 114, Bathinda’s AQI 192, Jalandhar’s AQI 158, Khanna’s AQI 169, Ludhiana’s AQI 163, Mandi Gobindgarh’s AQI 206, Patiala’s AQI 128, and Rupnagar’s AQI 84.

Similarly, the AQI in all three locations in Chandigarh was very good, ranging between 72 and 83.

Stubble burning record broken in 11 days
Stubble burning is the biggest cause of air pollution in Punjab. Stubble burning cases have not stopped. A total of 4,507 cases of stubble burning have been reported from September 15 to November 11. However, 1,642 cases were reported until October 31. The reason behind this is that wheat sowing has already begun.

1,147 cases of stubble burning have been registered in the state. A fine of ₹1 crore was imposed, of which ₹9.2 million has been recovered. 781 nodal officers have been deployed to prevent stubble burning.
