Malvinder Singh Kang, a Member of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a two-year GST exemption and a comprehensive relief package for Punjab.
The waiver and relief package has been sought as the state has been severely affected by unprecedented floods.
The floods have submerged over 1,200 villages, displaced 4 lakh people, and devastated crops, highlighting the urgent need for national solidarity and support for Punjab, often referred to as India’s breadbasket.

In a post on X, Kang shared the letter written to PM Narendra Modi. He posted, “I have urged the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi
ji to extend a two-year GST exemption and a comprehensive relief package for Punjab, whose very soul today stands ravaged by unprecedented floods. With over 1,200 villages submerged, 4 lakh lives upended, and crops devastated, the suffering of Punjab—the nation’s eternal breadbasket—demands urgent national solidarity”.
Citing example of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, MP Kang further wrote on X, “Just as Bihar was granted a relief package of ₹58,900 crore and Andhra Pradesh ₹58,000 crore, Punjab too deserves justice, parity, and compassion in its hour of anguish. This is not a plea for favour, but a rightful call for equitable support.”
