MP Records Chilly 1.8°C as Cold Wave Continues

Bhopal/Raipur: Madhya Pradesh continued to experience dry weather over the past 24 hours, with cold wave conditions affecting several districts. Bhopal, Rajgarh, Sehore, Shajapur, and Shahdol reported cold wave conditions, while Indore and Seoni faced severe cold. Shajapur, Narsinghpur, and Betul recorded cold day temperatures.

Maximum temperatures remained below normal, with Ujjain division 3.7°C below average and other divisions 1.8–2.8°C lower than usual. Minimum temperatures fell sharply, particularly in Bhopal (4.5°C below normal) and Narmadapuram and Shahdol divisions (2.3–2.8°C). Cold winds from northern India intensified the chill, with fog prevalent in Gwalior-Chambal and Sagar divisions.

Nineteen cities, including Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur, recorded minimums below 10°C. Rewa was the coldest at 5.8°C, even lower than hill station Pachmarhi. Other lows included Gwalior 7.5°C, Bhopal 8.2°C, Jabalpur 9.9°C, Indore 11°C, and Ujjain 11.7°C. Daytime temperatures remained mild, ranging from 23.2°C in Pachmarhi to 26.5°C in Ujjain.

The Meteorological Department forecasts further cold on December 7-8 due to western disturbances causing snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. November had already set records, with Bhopal experiencing its longest cold wave in 84 years and Indore recording its coldest night in 25 years.

Chhattisgarh is also under severe cold, with Bastar at 3.9°C and Surguja at 4.6°C. The Raipur Meteorological Centre warned of a harsher winter ahead for central India.
