MP: SIR nearing completion; over 38 lakh voters likely to be deleted

Bhopal: Over 3.8 million voters are likely to be removed from the electoral rolls as the ongoing Special Intensive Rectification (SIR) exercise in Madhya Pradesh nears completion, an official said on Friday.

The deadline for completing the SIR exercise has been set for December 23.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Pratap Singh Janod told IANS that door-to-door voter verification has been completed with the help of over 65,000 booth-level officers (BLOs).

Janod said, “The mandatory digitization of the counting forms is now being completed. The final voter turnout will be done once the final draft is ready by December 23rd.”

Over 3.8 million voters likely to be removed

Janod explained that preliminary verification revealed that over 8.4 million voters are dead on the 2023 list.

He added that over 800,000 voters were found absent during door-to-door verification by BLOs.

Additionally, over 2.2 million voters have shifted their addresses, while approximately 2 million voters have been found ineligible in other categories.

Final Publication and Extension of Voter List

Janod said that the final report will be made public after the digitization process is completed.

It is worth noting that the ECI has extended the deadline for the ongoing SIR program in five states and one union territory from December 11th.
Madhya Pradesh has 6.65 crore registered voters in 2023. The state has a total of 230 assembly seats and 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, spread across 55 districts and divided into six divisions: Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Chambal, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Sagar, Shahdol, and Ujjain.
