Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana Proves a Boon for Punjab Residents; 3.79 Lakh Patients Receive Cashless Treatment Worth ₹654 Crore

Punjab’s flagship healthcare initiative, the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY), is emerging as a game-changer in the state’s healthcare sector, with 3.79 lakh patients having availed cashless treatment worth more than ₹654 crore so far.

The figures were shared by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann while reviewing the progress of the scheme during a high-level meeting. He said the state government remains committed to ensuring that every family has access to quality, affordable, and easily accessible healthcare services.

“The overwhelming response from the public demonstrates the success of the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana. It is a major step towards achieving universal healthcare coverage in Punjab,” the Chief Minister said.

Over 47 Lakh Health Cards Issued

According to official data, the scheme has so far issued 47.27 lakh health cards, benefiting 23.01 lakh families across Punjab. Women account for 51.5 percent of the beneficiaries, while men constitute 48.5 percent.

The scheme has seen strong participation in rural areas, where nearly 69 percent of the health cards have been distributed, compared to 31 percent in urban regions.

Government Working to Improve Accessibility

To make the scheme more user-friendly, the Punjab government is introducing several digital initiatives. Chief Minister Mann announced that a dedicated WhatsApp-based service and an online portal are being developed to enable beneficiaries to download their e-health cards with ease.

In addition, a new mobile app-based registration system is also under development and is expected to be launched soon, further simplifying the enrollment process.

835 Hospitals Empanelled Under the Scheme

Providing details about the healthcare network, the Chief Minister said that 835 hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme, including 223 government hospitals and 612 private healthcare facilities. This extensive network ensures that beneficiaries can access quality medical treatment across the state.

Since its launch, the scheme has enabled 3.79 lakh patients to receive free treatment in both government and private hospitals without any financial burden.

Up to ₹10 Lakh Cashless Treatment Per Family

Highlighting the scale of the initiative, Mann stated that the government aims to provide health coverage to all 65 lakh families in Punjab. Under the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, every eligible family is entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh annually.

He described the scheme as a milestone in Punjab’s healthcare journey, noting that it has significantly reduced the financial stress associated with medical treatment and ensured that no family is denied quality healthcare due to economic constraints.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and senior government officials were also present during the review meeting.
