The Punjab government’s ‘Mukh-mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ is making rapid strides towards the economic empowerment of women in the state. Under this welfare scheme, the first installment has already been successfully transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the bank accounts of approximately 33 lakh eligible women.
According to the Punjab government, ₹1,147 crore has been transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts, providing them with financial assistance without the involvement of any middlemen.
Under the scheme, eligible women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category have received ₹4,500 representing a three-month installment at the rate of ₹1,500 per month. Meanwhile, women from all other eligible categories have had ₹3,000 calculated at ₹1,000 per month for three months deposited into their bank accounts. These payments have been made to women who completed their registration by June 25, 2026.
The Punjab government has clarified that the registration process for the scheme is ongoing, and over 66 lakh women have registered so far. Women who have applied recently will receive the benefits along with the next installment once the eligibility verification process is complete. The government has stated that no eligible woman will be left out of this scheme.
Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, stated that the successful disbursement of the first installment is a testament to the government’s transparent and accountable system. She explained that the government’s objective is to deliver financial assistance directly to the bank accounts of every eligible woman, thereby ensuring their dignity and financial security. She added that this scheme is a significant step towards making women self-reliant and economically empowered.
The Minister also clarified that availing the benefits of the ‘Mukh-mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ would not affect the women’s eligibility for other social security schemes. Women who are already availing benefits from government schemes such as widow pensions, disability pensions, or old-age pensions will continue to receive those benefits as before; the new scheme has been introduced to provide additional financial assistance.
Many women who received the first installment described the experience as a memorable and dignified moment in their lives. Beneficiaries noted that, for the first time, funds from a government scheme were transferred directly into their bank accounts without any hassle. This has not only boosted confidence in the government’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system but also strengthened the financial self-confidence of the women. The government anticipates that the scope of this scheme will expand in the future, enabling an increasing number of eligible women to benefit from it.
