Mumbai Airport to be closed for 6 hours today for pre-monsoon maintenance

Mumbai: Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, Maharashtra, will be suspended for 6 hours on Thursday. According to officials, both runways will be temporarily closed from 11 am to 5 pm due to pre-monsoon maintenance work.

Both runways will remain closed

During this period, runways 09/27 and 14/32 will be closed, rendering the airport completely non-operational for a specified period.

Work being carried out as part of monsoon preparedness

This maintenance work is part of the airport’s annual monsoon preparedness program, which aims to ensure safe and smooth flight operations during the heavy rainy season.

Airport management explains the reason

Airport operator Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) stated that the work is necessary for the safety and maintenance of the airside infrastructure spread over 1,033 acres.

Airlines were informed in advance

The airport administration stated that discussions with airlines and other stakeholders were initiated approximately six months in advance to minimize passenger inconvenience and ensure that flight schedules could be rescheduled in advance.

The airport operator stated, “As part of CSMIA’s comprehensive monsoon contingency plan, airlines and other stakeholders were informed six months in advance so that they could make timely changes to their flight schedules.”

Operations were also affected in recent months

Flight operations at Mumbai Airport have been affected several times in recent months. On March 8, a total of 66 flights were cancelled, including 32 arrivals and 34 departures.

The situation was more severe on March 3, when a total of 107 flights were cancelled, including 54 arrivals and 53 departures.
