Hydroponic Cannabis Lab Busted at Mumbai Home, One Arrested

Mumbai: An illegal hydroponic cannabis cultivation laboratory was busted at a house in Mumbai’s Borivali area, leading to the arrest of one accused, police said on Sunday.

The case came to light after police received specific information about the illegal cultivation operation in the MHB Colony area of Ganpat Patil Nagar.

Police raided the premises and dismantled the laboratory. Investigators found that the accused were allegedly attempting to grow hydroponic cannabis using scientific cultivation techniques learned through YouTube videos.

Specialised Equipment Seized

According to investigators, the illegal laboratory was equipped with specialised devices to facilitate the cultivation process.

Grow LED lights and other equipment were allegedly being used to regulate temperature, humidity and pH levels and create a controlled environment for growing cannabis plants.

Police recovered 54 grams of hydroponic cannabis from the premises, valued at approximately Rs 1.62 lakh.

Around 189 grams of wet cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs 2.5 lakh, was also recovered along with various pieces of equipment allegedly used for cultivation.

One Arrested, Another Suspect Sought

Police arrested one accused, identified as Babbu Kamat, in connection with the case.

The police are also searching for Rahul Thakur, who is allegedly the main person involved in the operation.

Investigators are examining the laboratory setup and other evidence recovered from the premises as part of the probe. Further details are awaited.
