Mumbai Police issues ‘Leave India’ notice to Imran Khan, directing him to leave the country by October 28

Mumbai: Mumbai Police has issued a ‘Leave India’ notice to Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s nephew and actor Imran Khan. According to reports, the police have directed him to leave India by October 28. Imran Khan reportedly holds a US passport.

Imran Khan participated in a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

    Action under the Immigration Act

According to reports, action has been initiated against Imran Khan under sections 29 and 7 of the Immigration Act for participating in the protest despite not being an Indian citizen.

He was detained by Mumbai Police during the protest on Saturday. After his detention, the actor shared a photo on social media, purportedly showing him sitting inside a police van. Along with the photo, he wrote, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.”

Imran Khan raises questions about voice suppression

During a media interaction, Imran Khan stated that he had come to the protest site as a citizen of Mumbai and had no specific demands.

He raised questions about the suppression of people’s voices and restrictions on freedom of movement.

The actor said, “I have no demands. I have come here as a person and citizen of this city. I have come to see why freedom of movement is being restricted and why people’s voices are being suppressed. That is why I am here.”

Kirit Somaiya demanded his arrest and deportation

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya had demanded the immediate arrest and deportation of Imran Khan for his participation in the protests in Mumbai. Somaiya had alleged that the actor had violated the provisions and visa conditions related to his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status.

Somaiya claimed that he had submitted evidence to the police regarding the actor’s speeches during the protest and his previous comments. He also accused Imran Khan of allegedly misusing his OCI status to participate in a political movement.

    Somaiya alleges ‘political extremism’

Speaking to the media, Somaiya described Imran Khan’s alleged behavior as ‘political extremism’. He alleged that despite being an American citizen and an OCI cardholder, the actor misused his status.

Somaiya said, “The citizens of India cannot tolerate the political extremism displayed by Imran Khan while living in the country in recent times. He is an American citizen holding an OCI card, yet he has tried to misuse his status. Today, we have submitted all the evidence related to his conduct to the police, especially the speeches made during the protest and his previous comments.”

The allegations against Imran Khan and the status of action under the Immigration Act must be officially confirmed from the statements of the concerned authorities.
