Mumbai: Two people were detained at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) ahead of an event scheduled to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mumbai Police said.
The incident came to light after one of the men allegedly attempted to enter the venue using a fake identity card while claiming to be a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official.
Fake PMO ID Found During Security Check
According to Mumbai Police, the accused has been identified as Rohan Parekh. He was reportedly carrying fake identity documents while attempting to enter the NMACC on September 7.
During the security check, police reportedly found that the identity documents he was carrying were fake. Parekh was also allegedly claiming to be a PMO official.
He was accompanied by a bodyguard, from whom a gun was recovered, police said.
Case Registered at BKC Police Station
Following the incident, a case was registered at the BKC Police Station against Parekh and his bodyguard.
The two were detained as police intensified security arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled event at the NMACC.
Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation
The Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting further investigation into the case. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged use of fake identity documents and the presence of an armed bodyguard at the high-security venue.
The investigation will also look into the claims made by Parekh regarding his alleged connection with the PMO.
