70-Year-Old Man Killed by Speeding Car During Morning Walk in Maharashtra’s Nagpur

Nagpur: A 70-year-old man was killed after a speeding car hit him while he was out on his morning walk along Japanese Garden Road in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on Sunday, officials said.

According to officials, the car was being driven at high speed and its driver was allegedly involved in reckless driving along with two other vehicles. The driver eventually lost control of the car and crashed into the elderly man, who was walking along the sidewalk.

The impact was so severe that the man died on the spot, while the front portion of the car was badly damaged, officials said.

Elderly Man Dies on Spot

The deceased was identified as 70-year-old Kailash Saundhiya.

Officials said the drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the alleged reckless driving fled the spot following the accident.

Police have apprehended the three men who were travelling in the car that hit the elderly man.

Following the incident, local residents informed the police. Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagar Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police Vanita Shahu and other senior police officials reached the spot.

The officers inspected the accident site and also spoke to members of the victim’s family.

Family Demands Strict Action

Purnima, the daughter-in-law of Kailash Saundhiya, said the family was informed about the accident and immediately rushed to the spot.

“Someone called us and informed us that an accident had occurred there. We immediately rushed to the scene. After arriving, we learned that he had died,” she said.

She said three people travelling in the vehicle had been taken into custody by police following the accident.

“They appear to be drug addicts, as good people don’t drive like this. We demand that the accused be punished,” she added.

Police said an investigation into the incident is underway and teams have been formed to apprehend the other accused allegedly involved in the accident.
