Panaji: Goa Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case following the death of Bollywood actor Nana Patekar and will record statements from his family members and other relevant individuals as part of the investigation.
The case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Panaji Police Station. Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Naik is conducting the inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.
According to police records, Patekar was brought from his residence in Dona Paula to Manipal Hospital in Goa, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police are examining the circumstances of the incident as part of the standard legal procedure following an unexplained or unattended death.
Police to Examine Post-Mortem Report, Record Family Statements
As part of the investigation, police will conduct the necessary inquest proceedings, examine the post-mortem report from Goa Medical College (GMC) and record statements from the actor’s family members and other relevant individuals.
The inquiry aims to establish the circumstances and cause of death. If the investigation confirms that the death was natural and reveals no suspicious circumstances, the case may be closed. However, if evidence of foul play or other suspicious circumstances emerges, further legal action may follow.
The registration of an Unnatural Death case is a procedural step and does not, by itself, establish that foul play was involved.
Doctor Confirms Actor Was Brought Dead to Hospital
Earlier, Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital told the media that doctors had tried their best to revive the actor but were unable to do so.
“We tried our best here, but he was brought dead, and then we had to file a police case,” the doctor said.
Salkar also stated that, to the best of his knowledge, Patekar had a heart condition and was taking medication.
The actor died early Thursday morning, October 8, following a suspected cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Doctors at Manipal Hospital attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 45 minutes, but he could not be revived. He was declared dead at 5:20 a.m.
The post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday morning, after which his body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
