New Delhi: The sudden death of Nana Patekar has left the Indian film industry mourning the loss of one of its most distinctive performers. His passing has also left behind unfinished work, including his upcoming crime thriller The Confession, also known as The Confession of Mary.
Subhash Kale, co-producer of the film, recalled his last conversation with Patekar and said the actor had been expected to return to Mumbai to complete the dubbing for the film.
Kale said he was “completely shaken” when he learned about Patekar’s death on Thursday morning.
“It is a very big loss, and it is unbelievable… unbelievable. I found out at around 7:30 this morning, as soon as I woke up, and I was completely shaken when I heard the news,” Kale said.
He added that he immediately contacted Malhar to confirm the news. Kale described Patekar’s death as a sudden and immense loss for the film industry.
Nana Patekar Had One Dubbing Line Left
Kale said he had spoken to Patekar just two days before his death about the dubbing work for The Confession. According to him, only one line remained for the actor to record.
Patekar had told him that he would return to Mumbai the following day and complete the pending line.
“I’ll come tomorrow, and we’ll do that one line,” Patekar had told Kale, according to the co-producer.
Kale also said Patekar had a shoot scheduled in Mumbai for another film after his return.
The unfinished dubbing work has now become one of the final reminders of the actor’s professional commitments before his sudden death.
‘The First Call Would Be to Me’
Recalling his close bond with Patekar, Kale said the actor would call him whenever he came to Mumbai.
According to Kale, they would often meet at the studio, where they spent time talking, joking and singing songs together.
“Whenever he came to Mumbai, the first call would be to me: ‘I am coming to the studio.’ We would sit together, have a lot of fun, joke around, sing songs… He was just incredible,” Kale recalled.
Kale said he was unable to speak much about the loss and was travelling to Goa following the actor’s death.
