Narcotic Powder recovered from Inmate at Ludhiana Central Jail: discovery during routine check

Ludhiana Central Jail is once again in the headlines. During a surprise inspection of the barracks conducted by the jail administration, narcotics were recovered from a prisoner. The police at Division No. 7 Police Station have registered a case in this matter under serious sections of the Jail Manual and the NDPS Act.

According to reports, Sukhpal Singh, the Assistant Superintendent of Ludhiana Central Jail, was conducting a routine inspection inside the facility along with his team. When the team searched prisoner Ajay Pal Singh (a resident of Gali No. 30, Fateh Singh Colony, Amritsar), 8 grams of a white narcotic substance were recovered from his possession.

The discovery of narcotics inside the jail raises serious questions regarding the security arrangements.

Acting on Letter No. 3117 (dated 20/04/2026) from the jail administration, the police have initiated strict action. A case has been registered against the accused prisoner under Section 52-A of the Jail Manual for possessing prohibited items within the jail premises and for violating prison regulations.

The fact that narcotics managed to reach the interior of the jail—despite the stringent security measures in place—remains a matter of grave concern. A case has been registered against the accused. An investigation is now underway to determine the specific channel through which these narcotics were smuggled into the jail.
