Narnaul: Man Dies After E-Scooter Battery Explosion at Home

Chandigarh: A 55-year-old man lost his life after the battery of his electric scooter exploded while it was being charged inside his house in Narnaul, Haryana. The incident occurred on Monday night and triggered a massive fire that destroyed a large part of the residence.

Blast Triggers Fire, Victim Found Critically Injured

The deceased has been identified as Shiv Kumar, a resident of Barkoda village who was living in a self-built house in Ramnagar Colony, Narnaul. According to police and local residents, Shiv Kumar was sleeping alone in one room while his electric scooter was charging inside the house. Other family members were sleeping in a separate room.

At around 9:30 pm, the scooter’s battery reportedly exploded with a loud bang, leading to a fire that quickly spread through the house. Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the blast and alerted the police, fire brigade and ambulance services. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after nearly 30 minutes.

Shiv Kumar was rescued in a critical condition and taken to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

House Gutted, Belongings Destroyed

The fire caused extensive damage to the house, destroying furniture, doors, windows, beds, sofas and other household items. Shiv Kumar, who worked as a labourer and belonged to the Bawaria community, is survived by two daughters and a son, all married. One of his daughters is employed in a Group D government post.

Police Probe Into Battery Explosion

Preliminary information suggests that the electric scooter was a low-speed Toxmo Rhino Plus model, purchased about a year ago from a showroom in Naseebpur. The vehicle, which does not require registration or a driving licence, has a maximum speed of 25 kmph and was regularly charged at night.

Police said the exact cause of the battery explosion is yet to be determined and a detailed investigation is underway.
