Araria, Bihar: Two children were killed and two others were injured after a portion of soil collapsed during alleged illegal mining activity in Phulkaha area of Narpatganj in Bihar’s Araria district.
The incident occurred while the children were reportedly near a site where illegal mining was being carried out. The sudden collapse of loose soil trapped the victims, leading to the deaths of two children and injuries to two others.
Two Children Killed in Soil Collapse
The collapse triggered panic in the area as people rushed to the spot after the incident. The two injured children were taken for medical treatment.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety risks associated with unauthorised mining activities, particularly in areas where excavation leaves unstable soil and deep pits.
Illegal Mining Reported in Phulkaha
Phulkaha, under the Narpatganj block of Araria district, has previously seen action against illegal sand mining. In August, police seized two pump sets allegedly being used for illegal sand extraction from the Surasar river in the Phulkaha police station area. The suspected miners fled after seeing the police, while the seized equipment was handed over to the police and a case was registered against unidentified persons.
The latest incident has again highlighted the need for strict monitoring of illegal mining sites and stronger enforcement of safety measures to prevent such accidents.
Further details about the identities of the deceased and injured children, the exact circumstances of the collapse and action by the authorities are awaited.
