President Murmu to Honour 48 Teachers With National Teachers Awards on Teachers’ Day

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards on 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday as India celebrates Teachers’ Day on September 5.

The annual ceremony, organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, recognises teachers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation and dedication to school education.

Short documentaries highlighting the work and achievements of each awardee will also be screened during the ceremony. The presentations will showcase the teachers’ contribution to improving learning outcomes and their impact on students.

48 teachers selected through three-stage process

For the National Teachers Awards 2026, eligible teachers were invited to submit self-nominations online through the Ministry of Education’s portal. The nomination process was open from June 15 to July 20.

A total of 48 school teachers were selected through a three-stage selection process at the District, State and National levels.

The awardees represent 27 States, seven Union Territories and six Central Government organisations. Of the 48 teachers selected this year, 26 are men and 22 are women.

The selection process was designed to identify educators who have made sustained efforts to improve the quality of school education and create better learning environments for students.

National Teachers Awards 2026: What the awards recognise

The National Teachers Awards are aimed at celebrating educators whose dedication and innovative teaching practices have made a meaningful difference in the lives of their students.

The awards also seek to encourage excellence in teaching and motivate educators to adopt innovative approaches to improve learning outcomes.

State Teacher Awards in Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh, 26 teachers will receive the State Teacher Award for their contribution to education and student development.

The group includes 21 school teachers and five college teachers. Within the School Education Department, 15 teachers have been selected for the General Award in the Non-Tribal/Hard Area category.

Uttar Pradesh to honour 81 teachers

In Uttar Pradesh, 81 teachers will receive the State Teacher Award and Chief Minister’s Teacher Award from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The ceremony will be held at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Gorakhpur.

The awardees include 61 teachers from the Basic Education Department and 20 from the Secondary Education Department.

The annual Teachers’ Day celebrations recognise the contribution of educators across India and highlight their role in shaping students and strengthening the country’s education system.
