Prayagraj: A delegation of 118 members, consisting of Heads of Mission, their spouses, and diplomats from 77 countries, is set to visit the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Saturday. During a press briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), confirmed that foreign diplomats would attend the Kumbh on February 1.
In a related development, a three-member judicial commission has been established to investigate the tragic stampede that occurred during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual at the ongoing Maha Kumbh. The commission visited Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on Friday, where many victims were treated, resulting in at least 30 fatalities and 60 injuries from the incident early Wednesday morning at the Sangam. The commission, which includes former judge Harsh Kumar, aims to examine the factors leading to the stampede and provide recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They are required to submit their investigation report within a month.
