Uttarkashi: In recent development in the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel collapse, it is expected that the rescuers will be able to take out all the stranded workers from the tunnel by night if all goes well. A total of 41 workers have been trapped on the other side of the debris after a portion of the nearly 4.5km Silkyara-Barkot tunnel collapsed in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

So far the rescuers have drilled nearly 54 meters of the debris and only 5 to 6 meters are left. If no obstacle comes in the way, the 41 trapped workers will be out by today’s night. DG NDRF, Atul Karwal said, “Auger machine has started operating again. We are estimating to send 2-3 pipes of 6 meters inside. Hopefully, by the end of the day, if we do not get any obstacles, the rescue operation will be completed…”

As per NDRF, after the drilling is complete and rescuers have reached the spot where workers are trapped, workers will be assembled and will be taken out with the help of the NDRF personnel.

Also, a green corridor has been made by the police officials. The green corridor will lead the trapped workers from the collapse site to the hospital. IG Garhwal Range, KS Nagnyal said that arrangements of ambulances have been made. Arrangement of airlifting people if necessary to AIIMS Rishikesh is also there as per the police official.
