A girl drowned in the Ganges while visiting her maternal grandparents’ house, along with her cousin and a friend during the ritual of offering flowers for Navratri. The friend managed to escape, but the girl and her cousin drowned. After about five and a half hours of effort, their bodies were recovered. The families were devastated upon the recovery of the bodies, and the police took the bodies into custody for post-mortem.

Shivanki (6), daughter of Shivraj from Matni village in the Sandi police station area, had gone to visit her maternal grandparents in the village of Jarela in the Bilgram police station area three days prior. On Sunday morning, around nine o’clock, Shivanki, along with her cousin Divyanshi (6) and friend Ruchi (10), went to the banks of the Ganges River near their village to immerse flowers for a prayer ritual. While they were immersing the flowers, the three girls accidentally wandered into deeper waters. Ruchi managed to get out and called for help.

Hearing her cries, people nearby jumped into the river, but Shivanki and Divyanshi could not be found. Soon, relatives and police arrived at the scene. Divers from nearby villages were called in to search the river. Around 2:30 PM, the bodies of Shivanki and Divyanshi were found in the river. The families were overwhelmed with grief upon the discovery of the bodies. Police officer Umakant Deepak reported that the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
