Nashik (Maharashtra): A mob attack at the Saat Peer Baba Dargah in Nashik resulted in injuries to 21 police personnel when residents attempted to remove the Dargah following its demolition by the Municipal Corporation on Wednesday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kirankumar Chavan described the incident, explaining that the attack occurred as the Dargah’s trustees were trying to dismantle the structure. “The High Court had ordered the removal of the Saat Peer Baba Dargah. In compliance with this order, the trustees and local residents planned to take down the Dargah themselves. Late last night, they gathered to begin the removal process,” Chavan stated. “However, a mob arrived and opposed their efforts. The trustees and residents attempted to calm the situation, but the mob was uncooperative and disregarded the senior police officials present. They began to throw stones at the officers,” he added.

DCP Chavan reported that 15 individuals have been detained so far, and over 50 motorcycles have been seized. “Twenty-one police officers were injured and are receiving treatment at local hospitals. The mob was dispersed using force, and the area is now peaceful, with a significant police presence. The Municipal Corporation’s removal procedure is currently underway,” he concluded.
