Gwalior: 25-year-old man named Ajay Kushwaha committed suicide by setting himself on fire outside his lover’s house, reportedly due to ongoing troubles related to their relationship, a police official stated on Monday. Ajay, a resident of the Sikandar Kampoo area, had been in a relationship with the woman for nearly nine years. The police said that he was distressed over financial issues with her.
On the night of June 13, Ajay set himself ablaze in front of the woman’s residence. He was quickly taken to the hospital but succumbed to his severe burns. Following the incident, police officers responded immediately, visited the hospital, and recorded his statement before his death. Based on his account, police registered a case against the woman, her father, and her brother on June 15, and an investigation is ongoing.
City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Manish Yadav explained that the incident occurred under Madhavganj police station jurisdiction. He added that Ajay had shared that the woman, with whom he had a nine-year relationship, had been blackmailing him for money. The couple had lived together in a rented house, and Ajay had provided financial support for the relationship. Despite this, he claimed the woman demanded around Rs 3 lakh from him and refused to marry him. He also alleged that she was involved with someone else, which distressed him further. He had even gotten married in a temple, but the relationship remained strained.
After his death, Ajay’s family filed an FIR, and, based on his statement, police have registered a case against the woman and her family members, who are currently absconding. Authorities are actively searching for the accused, and further legal action will be taken once they are apprehended.
The police official mentioned that the investigation is still in progress, and more details will emerge as the case develops. The incident highlights the tragic consequences of relationship disputes and financial conflicts, prompting authorities to look into all aspects of the case.
