Kawardha (Chhattisgarh): Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma announced that security forces had killed at least 26 Naxalites in an encounter in the Abujhmad forest area of Narayanpur district. He confirmed that one soldier was injured during the operation but is out of danger, and search efforts are ongoing. Sharma also stated that a member of the security forces lost their life in the confrontation.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the state’s commitment to eliminating Naxal influence by March 2026. He highlighted ongoing efforts to make Bastar Naxal-free, with Narayanpur being a significant focus following the recent encounter, which he described as part of a dedicated program to restore peace and development.
Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Raman Singh, congratulated the police on the operation’s success, noting that 26 Naxals had been killed without any police casualties. He extended his congratulations to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, State Home Minister Vijay Sharma, and the security forces, praising their efforts despite extreme temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius. Singh reaffirmed the people’s support for Bastar’s peace and development initiatives.
The recent encounter was part of a broader 21-day joint operation called ‘Operation Black Forest,’ conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police near the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border from April 21 to May 11. During this campaign, which targeted Naxal hideouts and bunkers, 31 Naxals with a bounty of Rs 1.72 crore were neutralized. The operation resulted in the destruction of 214 Naxal hideouts, and large quantities of explosives—including 450 IEDs, 818 BGL shells, 899 bundles of Codex, detonators, and other explosive materials—were recovered. Additionally, nearly 12,000 kilograms of food supplies were seized during the search operations.
