Srinagar: In a significant gunfight in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, five terrorists were killed, and two Army soldiers sustained injuries on Thursday.

Officials reported that the encounter occurred in Kadder village of the Behibagh area after joint forces, including the 34 Rashtriya Rifles, police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) based on intelligence regarding terrorists hiding in the area. As the forces closed in, the terrorists opened fire, leading to the fierce confrontation.

This operation marks the highest number of terrorists killed in a single encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in 2024. The identities of the deceased terrorists are still being verified, and the injured soldiers have been evacuated for medical treatment. The search operation in the area is ongoing.

Security forces view the elimination of these five terrorists as a significant achievement in their ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. They have intensified their campaign against terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, targeting properties linked to drug smugglers and peddlers in the region.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been leading high-level security meetings, urging forces to take an aggressive stance against the terror ecosystem. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is convening a security review meeting in Delhi today, which will include heads of intelligence agencies, police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) involved in anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
