In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police seized 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 8 crore in the Karimganj district. The operation took place on the evening of October 8 at the Churaibari checkpoint, positioned along the Assam-Tripura border. Acting on credible intelligence, police intercepted a vehicle and discovered eight packets of the tablets hidden in the vehicle’s hood. Two individuals, Tinku Malakar and Sujit Deb from Tripura, were apprehended during the operation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of the Karimganj police on social media, highlighting the successful execution of the operation. “Based on credible intelligence, @karimganjpolice successfully executed an anti-narcotics operation, intercepting a truck and seizing 80,000 YABA tablets. Two individuals have also been apprehended in connection with this case. Good job by @assampolice,” he stated.
In a separate incident on Monday, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local police, seized an additional 10,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 crore in Karimganj district. This operation led to the detention of Dilwar Hussain Choudhary, a 23-year-old resident of the Katigorah area, following intelligence regarding narcotics transportation.
Earlier, on October 6, police had also seized 1.5 kg of illegal drugs valued at Rs 3 crore in the Karbi Anglong district, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further details related to these drug operations.
