Ahmedabad (Gujarat): During a press conference, Pranav Thakkar, the State President of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Legal Cell, raised serious allegations against BJP candidate Kirit Patel in Visavadar, Gujarat. Thakkar claimed that Patel intentionally removed paragraph 8.2 from his Form 26 affidavit to hide important details. After an initial complaint to the Returning Officer was ignored, AAP has now formally approached the Election Commission of India.
Thakkar also alleged that election officials seem to be under pressure from the BJP. He emphasized that the party is ready to fight these issues legally at every level. Furthermore, he revealed that Kirit Patel owns a Fortuner vehicle registered in his name with the RTO, but it was not declared in his election affidavit—an egregious violation. Thakkar pointed out that according to Supreme Court precedents, concealment of assets can lead to disqualification, even after winning.
The party has lodged a separate complaint with the Election Commission over this concealment and will also file a local-level complaint. Thakkar also accused the BJP candidate of misuse of a government vehicle—Mahindra Bolero during Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s visit to Visavadar—adding that such use of government resources for campaigning is illegal, and a complaint has been filed.
Addressing voters, Thakkar urged them not to cast their vote for Kirit Patel, predicting his nomination could be rejected or he could be disqualified. He warned that this would leave Visavadar without proper representation and called on voters to support AAP’s candidate Gopal Italia, whom he described as a strong and capable leader for the region.
Meanwhile, in another related development, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal alleged on June 4 that the BJP had announced its support for the Congress in the upcoming Punjab bye-elections, citing a video from a BJP press conference shared by AAP Punjab’s senior spokesperson, Neel Garg.
