Ahmedabad: A segmental launching gantry being used for viaduct construction on the bullet train project near Ahmedabad accidentally slipped from its position, affecting an adjacent railway line and disrupting train movement, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on Sunday in Vatva, near Ahmedabad. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the erected structure remained undamaged, according to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).
However, the disruption had a significant impact on rail traffic, leading to the cancellation of at least 25 trains, partial cancellations of 15 others, rescheduling of five trains, and diversion of six more, according to an official from the Ahmedabad railway division.
Railway authorities said efforts were underway to clear the affected railway line and restore normal train operations as soon as possible. The NHSRCL also stated that restoration work was in progress with the help of heavy-duty road cranes.
“On March 23, 2025, around 11 PM, a segmental launching gantry used for viaduct construction in Vatva (near Ahmedabad) was being retracted after completing the installation of a concrete girder. During this process, it accidentally skidded from its position,” the NHSRCL said in a statement.
