PM Modi will dedicate Bathinda AIIMS to Punjab today, 300 bed Satellite Center will also be inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bathinda on Sunday.

In an important step towards strengthening health care in Punjab’s Malwa region facing high health risks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bathinda on Sunday.

He will dedicate a 300-bed satellite center of Post Graduate Institute of Medical and Educational Research (PGIMER) at Sangrur, Punjab, and also lay the foundation stone of a 100-bed satellite center of PGIMER at Ferozepur.

It is noteworthy that Bathinda, Sangrur and Firozpur fall in the Malwa region, which is the largest political region of Punjab with 69 out of 117 seats in the state assembly. Former chief ministers late Prakash Singh Badal, Captain Amarinder Singh and Charanjit Singh Channi and current chief minister Bhagwant Mann are from the Malwa belt south of the Sutlej river, where more than 80 percent of the groundwater is polluted and posing a health threat.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the new Mundra-Panipat pipeline project worth over Rs 9,000 crore.

The 1,194 km long Mundra-Panipat pipeline with an installed capacity of 8.4 MMTPA will be commissioned to transport crude oil from Mundra on the Gujarat coast to Indian Oil’s refinery at Panipat in Haryana. He will also inaugurate the Central Yoga and Naturopathy Research Institute in Jhajjar, Haryana.

It will have top class yoga and naturopathy research facilities. The establishment of satellite centers of PGIMER will provide comprehensive, affordable, quality health services to the people of Punjab and surrounding states.

Built at a cost of Rs 449 crore in Sangrur and spread over 25 acres, the satellite center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. With a capacity of 300 beds, the satellite center aims to reduce the burden on the main PGI institute in Chandigarh and increase access to quality medical care for patients.

Its key features include 300 beds, five major and two minor operation theatres, intensive care unit (ICU) wards, emergency services, in-patient department (IPD) services, telemedicine center and many other state-of-the-art facilities.

The foundation stone of the hospital was laid in 2013 and its construction was completed in two phases. With a budget of Rs 490.54 crore, it is planned to have 100 indoor beds at the satellite center of PGIMER in Firozpur.It includes 30 intensive care and high dependency beds. It is planned to have 10 clinical specialty departments and five other supporting departments. It will also have small and big operation theatres.
