New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently met representatives from 360 villages in Delhi, accusing former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of misleading these communities. In a social media post, Shah claimed Kejriwal’s statements about Prime Minister Narendra Modi—who he noted comes from a modest background—were false. He emphasized that Modi is the only leader capable of addressing the issues facing Delhi’s rural residents. Shah stated that the villagers and various communities, dissatisfied with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have voiced their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In response, Kejriwal criticized Shah and the BJP, alleging they are engaging in “hooliganism” ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. He held a press conference where he highlighted reports of individuals being assaulted, referencing videos that surfaced. Kejriwal mentioned allegations from AAP leader Sanjay Singh, indicating that BJP-affiliated individuals were attacking citizens, while the Delhi Police reportedly cited “orders from higher authorities” for their inaction.

Kejriwal also reached out to the Chief Election Commissioner, expressing serious concerns about the intimidation and harassment faced by AAP workers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency at the hands of BJP supporters and the police. In his letter, he detailed instances of illegal detention, physical abuse, and wrongful accusations against AAP volunteers.

He recounted an incident involving a senior AAP volunteer, Chetan, who was allegedly unlawfully detained and beaten by police to the point of fainting, requiring hospitalization. After significant effort, Chetan was eventually granted bail.

Kejriwal contended that the Delhi Police are systematically targeting AAP workers, with arbitrary detentions and harassment aimed at undermining the party’s campaign and deterring volunteer participation in election activities. The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
