Ahmedabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation for two major flyover projects in Ahmedabad’s western area on Sunday, marking a key milestone in the city’s urban development efforts.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced that the Rs 379 crore projects aim to reduce congestion along important traffic routes and enhance daily travel for thousands of residents.

The two flyovers—one along the Law Garden-CN Vidyalaya route and the other parallel to the Chimanbhai Patel Bridge—are expected to be finished within 34 months.

AMC Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani explained that these projects are targeted at tackling increasing traffic issues in some of the city’s busiest zones. The 770-meter Law Garden flyover, costing around Rs 142 crore, will improve movement across Panchwati Crossroads, Ambawadi Circle, and CN Vidyalaya, benefiting over 1.5 lakh commuters each day.

The larger project, a Rs 237.32 crore three-tier overpass near Chimanbhai Patel Bridge, will extend nearly 2,000 meters and connect to Subhash Bridge. Indian Railways will construct the section over the railway tracks, while AMC will develop the remaining parts, including space underneath the flyover for civic utilities.

Ahmedabad has already seen the launch of several significant flyovers, including extensions of the Law Garden-CN Vidyalaya and Chimanbhai Patel Bridge projects, totaling Rs 379 crore. These flyovers are aimed at easing traffic flow at busy junctions and are expected to benefit more than 1.5 lakh daily commuters.

In other cities like Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, civic authorities have also invested heavily in multi-level flyovers and corridor development to address persistent traffic issues, especially near industrial zones and railway crossings.

Most of Gujarat’s flyover projects are funded through a mix of state infrastructure funds, municipal budgets, and central schemes like AMRUT and Smart Cities Mission. Collaborations with firms such as L&T, Afcons, and IRCON have introduced advanced engineering techniques including pre-cast segmental construction and noise-reducing surfaces to ensure durability and efficiency.
