Ranchi: Amit Shah is set to unveil the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections today, November 3, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. Shah, who arrived in Ranchi on Saturday night, will release the “Sankalp Patra” and speak at three rallies in the constituencies of Ghatshila, Barkatha, and Simaria.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in Jharkhand on November 4 to address two rallies, followed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who will hold a public meeting in Jamshedpur on November 5.

The manifesto is expected to highlight 25 key initiatives to commemorate 25 years since the formation of Jharkhand and will include a broader 150-point document celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. BJP leaders indicated that Shah’s release of the manifesto signals a strong campaign launch in the state.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who oversees the BJP’s efforts in Jharkhand, called for a “double-engine” government, alleging that development has stalled under the current administration led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress coalition.

The Assembly elections in Jharkhand will take place in two phases, on November 13 and November 20, with vote counting set for November 23. The BJP aims to improve its performance after dropping from 37 Assembly seats in 2014 to just 25 in 2019, particularly facing losses in tribal areas. In the most recent Lok Sabha elections, the NDA reduced from 11 to 8 seats, losing all Scheduled Tribe-reserved seats to the JMM and Congress.

To regain voter favor, the BJP has focused on issues such as tribal conversions and has criticized the JMM government’s handling of development and corruption. With the quick succession of visits from Amit Shah and PM Modi, the BJP’s campaign is expected to gain traction.

In response to growing anti-incumbency sentiment, the JMM and Congress have been promoting their welfare initiatives, notably the Maiyya Samman Yojna, which offers monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to women aged 18 to 50.
