Mumbai, April 26: Reliance Industries Limited on Saturday appointed Mukesh Ambani’s younger son Anant Ambani as the executive director of the company. Anant will hold this position for 5 years from May 1. He has been a non-executive director in the company since 2023. Reliance gave this information in the exchange filing.
The company said, ‘The Board of Directors of Reliance in its meeting held on April 25 considered the recommendation of the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee and appointed non-executive director Anant M. Ambani as whole-time executive director.’
Anant is also a member of different verticals of Reliance
Anant was given the command of the company’s energy vertical in August 2022. Apart from this, Anant is a board member of Jio Platforms Limited since March 2020, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited since May 2022 and Reliance New Energy Limited, as well as Reliance New Solar Energy Limited since June 2021. He is also on the board of Reliance’s philanthropist arm, Reliance Foundation, since September 2022.
Mukesh Ambani is handing over the command to the next generation
With increasing age, Ambani has been working on a plan to hand over his business empire to the next generation for the past several years. On his father Dhirubhai’s birthday on 28 December 2023, Mukesh Ambani had said-
“The future of Reliance belongs to Akash, Isha, Anant and their generation. I do not doubt that they will achieve more in life and bring more to Reliance than people of my generation.”
Jio was given to Akash, and the retail business was given to Isha
1. Akash Ambani: Received an economics degree from Brown University in 2014. After this he joined the family business. In October 2014, he joined the board of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL). He is the chairman of RJIL since June 2022.
Akash Ambani has also been on the boards of Jio Platforms Limited, the digital services business of Reliance Industries, and Reliance Retail Ventures Limited. In 2019, he married Shloka Mehta. They have two children. Elder son Prithvi and daughter Veda.
2. Isha Ambani: Studied at Yale and Stanford. Joined the family business in 2015. Is on the boards of Reliance Retail Ventures, Jio Infocomm, Jio Financial Services. Isha got married to Anand Piramal, son of businessman Ajay Piramal, in December 2018.
Isha Ambani is driving the expansion of Reliance Retail. She has launched new formats for Reliance Retail such as e-commerce business Ajio and online beauty platform Tira. Reliance Retail has a presence in food, consumer electronics and fashion retail.
Reliance earns ₹19,407 crore profit in fourth quarter
Reliance released the results of the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25 yesterday i.e. on 25th April. During this period, the company earned a total of Rs 2,69,478 crore. This is 9.88% more than last year. In the same quarter last year, the company had earned Rs 2,45,249 crore.
If we deduct the expenses like salary of employees, tax, cost of raw material from the total earnings, then the owners of the company are left with Rs 19,407 crore as net profit (consolidated net profit). This is 2.40% more than the January-March quarter of 2024. Last year, the company had a profit of Rs 18,951 crore.
