As per reports, last three coaches of Palasa passenger train and locomotive and two coaches of Rayagada passenger train derailed. Last night the death toll was at 9 whereas by today morning the death count has risen to 13 leaving 40 people injured. Injured people were rushed to various nearby hospitals for timely treatment.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced ex-gratia for the deceased and those injured. CM has announced Rs 10 lakh for the kin of deceased and Rs 2.5 lakh for those who sustained serious injuries. Rs 50, 000 will be given to people with minor injuries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the situation and condoled the loss of lives too. He announced another ₹ 2 lakh assistance for the family of those who died in the accident and ₹ 50,000 for the injured people in the accident.
