Another bridge collapse in Bihar: Bridge over Gandak canal collapses

Within four days, the second bridge collapsed in Bihar. The bridge on the Gandak canal between Patedha and Garauli villages of Maharajganj subdivision of Siwan suddenly collapsed.

Patna: Within four days, the second bridge collapsed in Bihar. The bridge on the Gandak canal between Patedha and Garauli villages of Maharajganj subdivision of Siwan suddenly collapsed.

Actually, on Saturday morning, suddenly one of the pillars of the bridge started sinking. The bridge fell into the canal in no time. After the accident, traffic between the two villages has been disrupted. There was a stir in the area. People are raising questions on the construction work of the bridge.

The department had got the canal cleaned a few days ago
The villagers say that 30 years ago the Bihar government got this bridge constructed. A few days ago, the department had got the canal cleaned. Today the pillar broke, due to which the bridge fell into the canal. After the incident, the administration has formed an investigation team.

This bridge was 30 years old

It is being told that this bridge was 30 feet wide and 30 years old. The villagers said that even after the bridge broke down, no one from administartion have come to inspect it. Now, Children will not be able to go to school and this was the only culvert to travel from one village to another.

The bridge built on Bakra river collapsed on 18 June

Let us tell you that on 18 June the bridge built on Bakra river in Sikti block of Araria district collapsed even before its inauguration. The 182 meter bridge was built in three parts. Two parts along with two pillars got submerged in the river.

The cost of this bridge built under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Nirman Yojana was Rs 7.79 crore. The construction of this 182 meter long bridge started in 2021. Initially, it cost Rs 7 crore 80 lakh, but later the total cost increased to 12 crores due to changing the course of the river and the approach road.
