The 95th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Society was held under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda.
Union Ministers Dr. Jitendra Singh and Kailash Chaudhary, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dharampal Singh, Agriculture Minister of Nagaland Shri Mabhung Yanthan and Director General of ICAR Dr. Himanshu Pathak were also present.
Munda said that ICAR has led innovation in the agriculture sector to take the country away from hunger and malnutrition and towards healthy agricultural production. More than 46 suggestions were received in the last meeting, all of which have been completed by ICAR.
Munda said that this is the result of the achievement of the Central Government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite having the largest population in the world, more than 80 crore people in India are being given free food grains by the Centre. He said that despite many achievements, there are some challenges, finding solutions to which we have to continuously move towards our goal.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the work of taking the country forward by making agriculture and farmers prosperous is being ensured. Besides, agriculture related sectors like animal husbandry, fisheries, beekeeping etc. are also being encouraged. We have to pave the way for the progress of farmers by working rapidly towards solving challenges like climate change and soil erosion. It is a matter of happiness that ICAR is playing an important role in this.
While ICAR had released 1,225 high-yielding crop varieties during 2005 to 2014, 2,279 such varieties have been released during 2014 to 2023, which is almost double. Now the focus is on nutritional security, for this the focus is on development of bio-reinforced varieties. The suggestions coming in the meeting will be very helpful in moving forward effectively in this direction.
Munda said that for human society, there cannot be progress in any other sector without the progress of agriculture sector. Efforts should be made to give better results by balancing it and correctly assessing all the challenges and resolving them. Efforts should be made to ensure that even the smallest farmers living in remote areas become self-reliant, progress, agricultural production increases and become self-reliant in every aspect.
We all need to think and work together in this direction, so that we can achieve the target in the coming days and fulfill the resolution we have taken. Munda released ICAR’s publications and 24 varieties of 22 crops, including paddy, wheat, maize, savan, ragi, mustard, soybean, sunflower, gram, arhar, lentil, moth, jute, tomato, okra, amaranth, beans, cucumber. , peas, potatoes, mushrooms, guavas.
