New Delhi: As the Delhi assembly elections approach, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal unveiled seven guarantees for the servants and staff employed in government residences. He introduced a servant registration portal where job seekers and employers can connect.
The seven guarantees include the issuance of a personal staff card, similar to the government employee card, and a dedicated card for personal staff along with staff hostels. Kejriwal also announced the establishment of mobile healthcare facilities and plans to regulate working hours for these workers. Additionally, he emphasized legal protections and welfare benefits aligned with those previously announced for auto drivers.
These welfare benefits encompass health insurance, educational scholarships for their children, and financial assistance for their daughters’ marriages. During a press conference, Kejriwal highlighted the challenges faced by staff in government residences, noting that many work without salaries, receiving only accommodation instead, which he described as a form of bonded labor. He also pointed out that some MPs profit by renting out servant quarters.
Kejriwal detailed the seven guarantees, stating, “First, the Servant Registration Portal will allow those seeking employment and employers to find each other. A government servant/staff card will be created, along with a servant/staff hostel. The Delhi Government will also provide EWS housing for staff. Mobile Mohalla Clinics will be established for their healthcare. We will enforce rules regarding working hours, salaries, and conditions, making violations a criminal offense. Additionally, we will offer Rs 10 lakh life insurance, Rs 5 lakh health insurance, Rs 1 lakh for daughters’ weddings, and scholarships for children’s education,” he explained.
Delhi’s elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting taking place on February 8.
