Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): Job seekers in Prayagraj have entered their third day of protests against the staggered exam schedule set by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent violence outside the UPPSC office.

This morning, protesters breached barricades on a road leading to the Commission’s headquarters from Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Civil Lines.

The demonstrators are advocating for the upcoming Provincial Civil Services (PCS) and Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) exams to be held in a single shift, similar to previous arrangements, arguing that this would ensure fairness and ease for candidates.

Protester Sushil Kumar expressed frustration over the treatment of fellow protesters who have been arrested, saying, “We are not criminals, terrorists, or opposition sympathizers.” He raised concerns about the proposed normalisation formula, claiming it puts those taking the first shift at a disadvantage.

Another protester, Ajay Gupta, criticized the late introduction of the normalisation formula only two weeks before the exams, which was not included in the original exam announcement. He defended their actions of rushing towards the UPPSC office, stating, “We want to make our voices heard, so they address our demands.”

The UPPSC plans to conduct the PCS preliminary exams on December 7 and 8 in two shifts, while the RO and ARO exams are scheduled for December 22 and 23 in three shifts. UPPSC officials reported no progress in negotiations with the protesters, encouraging them to provide recommendations for improving exam transparency and preventing leaks.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya affirmed government support for the aspirants, indicating that officials have been directed to seek a resolution to the ongoing protests. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Yogi Adityanath government for its police actions against the demonstrators, accusing it of jeopardizing their futures.

In relation to the protests, the Uttar Pradesh Police have filed an FIR against 12 individuals for alleged vandalism during a protest on Tuesday night and have made some arrests, according to Prayagraj Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abhishek Bharti.
